Laura-Zoë Humphreys

Laura-Zoë Humphreys is Assistant Professor of Communication at Tulane University. Her first monograph, Fidel between the Lines: Paranoia and Ambivalence in Late Socialist Cuban Cinema (Duke UP, 2019) combines textual analysis, archival research, and over a decade of ethnographic research to show how Cuban filmmakers have historically turned to allegory to communicate an ambivalent relationship to the Cuban Revolution, and how such efforts came up against new forms of suspicion in the 1990s and the twenty-first century. She is currently conducting research on digital media piracy and changes in popular culture in Cuba.
