Giorgia Aiello
Giorgia Aiello is an Associate Professor in the School of Media and Communication at the University of Leeds. She is the lead co-editor of the International Journal of Communication’s special section “Going About the City: Methods and Methodologies for Urban Communication Research” (with Simone Tosoni, 2016) and the book Communicating the City: Meanings, Practices, Interactions (with Matteo Tarantino and Kate Oakley, to be published by Peter Lang in 2017). Giorgia has written widely on the aesthetics of urban regeneration, urban communication research methods, and promotional communication in British, American, and European cities.
In this fourth roundtable response, Giorgia Aiello suggests that media theory offers a distinctive understanding of the nature and potential of the urban as a human endeavour.
A Visual-Material Approach to the City
In the fourth essay, Giorgia Aiello presents a visual-material approach to the communicative dimensions of urban built environments, linking both mediation and mediatization.
