Eva Wiegert

Eva Wiegert studied European Art History, Cultural and Social Anthropology (WU Münster) and Art History in a Global Context (FU Berlin). From December 2020 to April 2025, she worked as a research assistant in the Department of Art History at the University of Salzburg. During this time, she wrote her doctoral thesis on contemporary photographs by night in the Nigerian metropolis of Lagos, which is nearing completion. Since May this year, she is working as a scientific-curatorial graduate trainee in the field of photography and media art at the Museum der Moderne in Salzburg.

Eva Wiegert draws on contemporary photographic series by African artists to examine how artists harness the city’s nocturnal light to reimagine urban space. These photographs not only capture the energy of nocturnal Lagos but also challenge stereotypes and invite viewers to see its people and places from new perspectives.
