Chris Hite is a professor of film at Allan Hancock College in California. He has published writing on Italian cinema history, most recently in TransAtlantic Visions (Mimesis Edizioni, 2023) and presented papers at the TransAtlantic Visions Conference in Rome, Society of Cinema and Media Studies in Atlanta, and the Italian Cinema(s) Abroad Conference at Ohio State University. As a filmmaker, Hite’s films have screened at over eighty national and international film festivals and broadcast showcases.

Chris Hite explores the popularity of Italian cinema in the “middling” industrial towns of Western Pennsylvania in the early twentieth century and traces how shifts in distribution and exhibition practices for foreign films marginalized these markets after World War II.
