Ariel Dougherty

Ariel Dougherty is an independent filmmaker and feminist media strategist. Her work is grounded in fifty years of media advocacy for women's cinematic storytelling, encouraging it unleash from patriarchal domination. Co-founder of Women Make Movies, now in its 52^nd year, she has mentored hundreds of women filmmakers, produced dozens of works, and directed nine films of her own. She writes about the intersection of feminist media, women's rights, and funding. From rural New Mexico, she is completing a book about community-based, girl-centered community film teaching programs.
